Definitions
There are a few different types of child care, as you’ve already learned. Child Care and Day Care are used interchangeably. Michigan requires child care programs to be registered/licensed. You can learn more about this here.
- Child Care Centers / Day Care Centers:
These are facilities that are located outside of one’s home, typically licensed for more than 12 children. (the number of children depends on the amount of space)
- Family Homes:
These are registered programs, in someone’s home, registered for up to 6 children.
- Group Homes:
These are registered programs, in someone’s home, licensed for 7-12 children.
To publicize your licensed child care, you can and click on the Great Start Connect button above and follow the instructions (the button can also be found at greatstartforkids.org). This is a database of all the licensed and registered programs and you can search by city, address or zip.
